What if the government collected one dollar per person (including children) in the country (with possibly some exceptions that I haven’t thought of), and used that money exclusively to pay off the national debt? Well, that was the original thought but it would take about 178,000 years to pay it.

So, not a good strategy. It was a nice dream, but maybe all that political fundraising could be used to pay the debt? I’m sure donors and politicians would not like that … Oh well, let us continue in debt.
